Textual analysis of 'Sports' magazine
Sports magazine is an American magazine, based on sports, i know that this magazine is well known by the fact that some of the title is covered including the subheading just below the main title.
This magazine is aimed at people who enjoy or maybe take up sport as a hobby, we can see that the main aim of this edition is baseball, i know this because of the large dominating image of 'Matt Holiday' playing baseball, so the reader can establish that baseball and Matt Holiday are going to be the main focus of this weeks edition. The image is so dominating that it covers half of the letters in the masthead. Not only is the image very large but another element that makes the image stand out even more and makes the cover more appealing in the contrast between the dark background and the bright white image of Matt Holiday. The majority of the main writing on this cover is bold and white, this is so it stands out from the darker background, this signifies the importance of these particular headlines and titles.
The main aspect of the dominating image that stands out to me is the serious look on matt holidays face, this signifys to the reader that this magazine is aimed at people who are serious about sports.
This magazine shows clearly the headlines of the magazine on both the top and middle of the cover. there are 5 different sub-headings, this will make he reader think that it is good value for money because of the amount of different stories there are. These sub headings are represented as pictures, this will not only show what type of stories these sub articles are by the expression on the celebrities faces, but also has a good visual effect and makes the magazine look more presentable and interesting. Also because of the fact that the magazine cover has lots of different headlines, the reader will immediately think that the magazine is packed full of interesting sports facts.

Textual analysis of Cosmopolitan magazine
The thing that caught my eye on this magazine is the fluorescent bright pink background, i think that this contrasts well to the type of magazine that it is because Cosmopolitan is a magazine aimed at young women, and the colour pink is know to be very popular to girls and young women. Each week there is a certain celebrity starring as the main focus as the cover image. For example on this front cover there is a large image of Hayden Panettiere covering around 70% of the cover, this shows to the reader that she is going to be the main headline in the magazine this week, this will also attract attention to the magazine. Most of the writing is in white, the title if partially covered by the image of the celebrity, this is a sign of how popular the magazine is because the publishers no longer feel the need to show the whole title because they can assume that even thought some of the title is covered, the magazine is known well enough for the public to know what magazine it is. Some of the writing is in black, this is because the publisher wants to emphasize that certain headline for example 'little mouth moves that make sex hotter' the reason that this is in black is to emphasize to the potential buyer that they can get sex advice from this magazine, and because this magazine is set to focus on relationships and sex, this will definitely attract the reader to buy this magazine. Another headline that is in black is 'the silent way he shows he's whipped' this is very tactful, because not only has the publisher highlighted this story line, but also not included a name, this will immediately make the reader want to read on to find out who.

R-representation
Language the language is in a number of different forms, such as, the font of the writing, the use of lighting, the photograph, the angle of the camera when taking the photograph. to attract readers to my magazine, i am going to use bright and contrasting colours, i am going to create an informal appearance formy magazine, but not too informal, because although i want it to look easy reading, i want to get a point across.
Institute- Wyke is set out to be for high acheivers, so to portray this to my targeted readers i am going to have to focus on the style of my layout and the imagry used, for example i could use an image of a group of friends laughing, to show that it is a very sociable college, but also use an image of students studying in the library, to again portray to the readers, that the students should have a serious approach, to acheive high.
Ideology- the cover should have a good, structured clean display. This needs to show to the reader that wyke in fresh and the lessons are easy to understand, because if the cover was over complicated and difficult to understand, that would send off mixed messages to potential students.
Audience- I need to take into account that my target audience is aimed at teenagers ages between 16-18. I need to make the cover look simplistic and not too complicated, i need to use bright colours and make the cover look fun and eye catching.
